‘The History of Nursing and the National Garden Scheme’ by Sharon Maher
Sharon is the ‘Talks and Booklet Coordinator‘ for Cheshire and Wirral NGS. She is a retired nurse, who is also a keen gardener. Her nursing career has given her insight into how the money raised by the NGS gets spent.
She gives talks to groups to help people understand the NGS is not a gardening charity, but a nursing charity. So, it seems we have a lot to learn. The NGS scheme is not just the opportunity to discover a vast variety of private gardens but so much more.
Sharon is also a bit of a history buff and thoroughly committed to the fascinating history of the NGS. It is a scheme that has a very local connection and is a tribute to some of our wealthy but far-sighted philanthropists.
2027, will mark the centenary of the NGS, so it will be the perfect moment for us to understand exactly how it came about and how much it has achieved during its existence.
A thoroughly informative and engaging talk is guaranteed so don‘t forget to register in good time!
