Hoylake RNLI Marks 221 Years of Rescues by Brian Jordan
We are very privileged to welcome Brian Jordan to address Heswall U3A detailing the work of the RNLI with especial emphasis on our three Wirral stations. Hoylake has marked 221 years of rescues, predating the RNLI by 21 years!
Brian was born in Birkenhead, has been married for 54 years and has two grown up children and three grandchildren. For over 70 years, he has lived in the same road in Higher Bebington! He worked in Logistics in North West of England for 48 years latterly as manager for North West Europe for a major Swiss logistics company. On retirement 14 years ago, he started volunteering with the RNLI at Hoylake and for last 13 years has been the Lifeboat Visits Officer. He is on the management committee of Hoylake and West Kirby lifeboat stations and regularly presents to groups.
How often do we hear of dramatic rescues on our local coastline? I can only imagine the terror of being stuck in mud or getting an injury on the slippery rocks of Middle Eye with the tide racing towards me, whilst hoping for help! In this presentation we will see several dramatic short videos involving different boats and hovercraft.
There will be an opportunity to support this charity by contributing any spare cash to a bucket collection or by purchasing a range of merchandise, cards, calendars etc. Don’t forget to bring some money with you!
This promises to be a most informative and worthwhile morning.
