Not Father O’Malley

The hilarious stories of a Roman Catholic childhood in post war Salford, the music that inspired a budding, self-taught jazz pianist and the challenges presented by supporting the “wrong” football team.

Roger’s love and passion for music stems from his early years, listening to bands in his local, Buille Hill Park. and being glued to the radio to hear iconic programmes of the day such as “Family Favourites”, “Housewife’s Choice”, “Music While You Work”. He will share that passion with you and will play his favourite songs of the day, live on the piano.

He will reveal some the mysteries of Catholicism such as confessionals and not eating meat on Fridays.

You will hear about some amazing characters and how his sisters crossed the line between bravery and total madness in canvassing for the Conservative Party in Salford.

This presentation is a mix of fascinating facts, amusing anecdotes, and wonderful live music. There is some pathos too, when Roger performs one of his many original compositions “Putting a Bet on for Dad”.

Prepare for an hour of fun and music and a trip down Memory Lane.
